Well, I became a stranger on my own blog! lol! I really do think about coming here and writing every so often but other things get in the way and I don’t make it a priority. I really do want to change that too. And not even because I think there’s anyone out there reading my little thoughts here, but because I want to journal about what’s going on in my life. I want to remember things that have made an impact on my life and have a place where I can go back and reflect on things.
So, here’s to changing things and catching up on this little blog. 🙂
The biggest thing going on in my life right now is Scentsy Family Reunion, also known as convention. We just got back from this annual event the other day and, for the third year in a row, I was blown away by the awesomeness of it and had the time of my life. In fact, I met with my director today for our monthly get together and I told her I just wanted to stay in that place and live there. Not the actual building where convention was, but that happy place where we’re all having fun and hanging out together and just having a great time. Scentsy convention is so much FUN!! I run on adrenaline and excitement all week and then crash at the end because I’m so exhausted, but every minute is worth it!
So just to recap my amazing week, this is how it went…
Early Tuesday morning we took off for St. Louis, Missouri, and arrived there mid-afternoon. I was an incentive trip earner this last incentive period and that provided entry for my hubby and me into a special VIP event on Tuesday evening. We heard a phenomenal speaker first – Belinda Ellsworth – and I got some GREAT notes from her talk. (I learned so much from her and from all the other speakers, I may do a post about each one just so I have all my notes together and remember!)
After Belinda spoke to us, we got to enjoy a concert by Sara Bareilles!!! In fact, she told us that we were the very first ones to hear her “Little Black Dress” concert – we were the first stop on her tour! How cools is that!
The next day was the official start day for Scentsy Family Reunion (SFR) and we kicked it off with a 5K fun run! This was our 2nd annual 5K fun run and I participated for the 2nd time as well! It was a beautiful day outside so that made it much nicer than last year! (Last year was extremely humid and it made it a little miserable! haha!) We took off at about 9am and I am proud to say that I beat my time from last year by 7 minutes!! Last year I walked almost the whole thing but this year I ran (jogged) quite a bit of it. I have to say that I was extremely proud of myself! We belong to a gym and I work out all the time but I am not a runner – it usually hurts my knees pretty badly to run but I was able to run without any knee problems so I was pretty pumped!
My husband ran it with me and was a great encourager and motivator. He could’ve run a lot faster (last year he did and left me in the dust! lol!) but he stayed right with me until the end. He even turned on the song, “We are the Champions” by Queen on the last stretch because I was starting to have a hard time. 😉 He’s pretty great like that.
That afternoon we got to head to one of the hotels in the area for a team meet and greet! We have team members all over the country and in Canada so this was a way for us all to get together and “meet” some of the team in person for the first time! It was a super fun time! We also had a 6 month leadership training course that some of us completed and we had a little graduation ceremony during the meet and greet for that as well. This is our LTC group. 🙂
Next we headed over to the St. Louis Edward Jones Dome for opening night!!! We had a blast finding out about some of our new fall products, getting some giveaways (one of my girls on my team with some of them below!), and just having a big pep rally! The pep rally was because the theme was a throwback to high school and our motto for this year was “Show Me Scentsy Spirit!” We even had a drumline come out and play to kick things off! All of us got shirts that had the year we joined on the sleeve and everyone from the same year was the same color. That was super cool! You could look around the room and see all of the people who started the same year you did!
They even had banners hanging in the registration hall that our years and colors on them. 🙂 Mine is ’11 which was lime green!
It was also great to hear from the owners of our company, Orville and Heidi Thompson, about where Scentsy began and how it all got started and hearing about where we are now on the 10th anniversary of the company. We even heard from the two women who created Scentsy and the early beginnings before it became a direct sales company! So cool! It’s amazing to see the journey they’ve been on the last 10 years!! It might be a little hard to see, but the picture on the screen below is a shot of the very first Scentsy convention. There were only enough people to fill a regular meeting room. This year we had about 8,000 people and had to be in a sports dome!! Incredible!
After all of that excitement we had a special Train concert!! woot woot! That concert was amazing! They are a very talented group and the lead singer, Pat Monahan, puts on a GREAT show! He got a little more than he bargained for with our Scentsy crowd though! lol! He asked at one point if a few people wanted to come up on stage and rather than a few, the entire front of the crowd flooded on stage. We were a little worried the stage was going to collapse!! Thankfully it didn’t though and he was amazing with the crowd. Such a great guy!
Thursday morning arrived bright and early and we were off to the dome for general sessions and breakout sessions! We heard a beautiful message from Heidi Thompson. I love hearing her speak. She is just an amazing lady – beautiful inside and out – and has such heartfelt words to share every year. One of the coolest things she did was have us turn a light on with our phone and then she asked us to shine the light for everyone to see when she said the year that we joined the company. Of course, the first couple of years there weren’t very many lights shining, but as each year was named there were lights shining all over the room. It was completely dark except for our lights shining. It was one of the most beautiful visuals of the whole event! A director in our company, Patty Hanson, made this really cool pic of it and she gave anyone permission to share it so…
The breakout sessions for the day were awesome and I learned some great stuff! These were all done by consultants who are right there with us, working this business day in and day out. They know our struggles, they know what our moments of joy are, and they wanted to encourage us and teach us based on their past experiences. I got some very valuable information. 🙂
Friday dawned early again and we were off and running to get to the next day of general sessions. And boy did we have a treat on this day. If you don’t know who John O’Leary is, you need to go and check out his story right now. It was one of the most incredible stories I’ve ever heard in my life. So inspirational and so amazing. I will tell you this – I should’ve worn waterproof mascara that day! geesh! Talk about a tearjerker!! What a testimony to the power of one person changing someone’s life. Please, go check him out. Seriously.
Of course, we also heard from Orville Thompson and it was awesome as well. He has such a gift for sharing from his heart and teaching us things that are so important. And it isn’t things like product information, how to get more sales, or how to recruit more…it’s about friendships, relationships, and reaching the destination we hope to reach. It doesn’t matter about any amount of “stuff” we can accumulate if we don’t have relationships. And every word is so true. All that really matters in the end is the relationships we’ve built. And honestly, that’s what I cherish the most about this business – the relationships I’ve built with so many amazing women and men that I’ve met by doing what I do. It just blows me away how blessed I am and how encouraged I can be when I’m with these amazing people. And it doesn’t even matter who’s on whose team – we all support each other and help each other in any way we can – because that’s Scentsy spirit. Period.
And that right there was good enough to end with but they had even more in store for us! We got a concert with Jim Gaffigan!! And that dude is FUNNY!! I will never look at hot pockets the same! LOL!!!
And then this happened…
I realize that’s not a great picture but let me explain. Scentsy has several awards that can be earned and lots of people earn them each year. But there is one award that only one person (or one business entity – husband and wife) earns each year called the Shining Star award. It’s Scentsy’s highest honor and not only is only one chosen each year, but you have to be nominated among the thousands and thousands of consultants, your nomination has to be chosen, you then become one of ten finalists, and then one winner is picked.
Until this year.
This year these two beautiful, amazing women who are so generous and such great leaders, won this award together. Heidi and Orville are on the outside in the photo and the two on the inside are our Shining Star winners. The one on the right is Jacquelyn Roy. She is amazing at what she does and wants to help everyone and share everything she knows in order to help others. I am not directly on her team- although we are in the same group – but she doesn’t benefit financially from me at all but she is always willing to answer any questions I have, help me in any way she can, teach at team trainings or whatever is needed. She’s just a gift! I’ve learned a ton from her and am honored to know her. And then there’s the girl on the left. Allison Dalke. She just happens to be my sponsor, my director, and my mentor but more importantly my friend. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for her. She’s poured into me in so many ways and I’m so very thankful for her. She and I are a lot alike as far as personality goes. We have some of the same struggles and some of the same strengths. But knowing that she has some of those same struggles I do is what’s kept me going in this business. I know that it can be done because she did it. And look at her now – she’s received the highest honor Scentsy gives. Oh, and did I mention that Jacquelyn was Allison’s first recruit? AND that they are sisters-in-law? How totally incredible is it that they have been on this journey together for almost 7 years and for the first time ever, Scentsy chose TWO winners and honored both of them with this award.
Coolest thing EVER.
Oh, and to explain about why that picture isn’t very good…I was screaming my head off and jumping up and down along with the rest of my team because we were SO excited that they’d just named both of our girls the winners!!! It’s hard to get a good shot when you’re doing all that. 😉
We ended the night with a celebration! We had a dance party going on and hung out at that for awhile and then a group of us went out for a late dinner. After the crowd around Allison died down and she had a chance to get out of the arena, we all went to her hotel to hang out with her and her hubby and talk about the amazing week we’d all had. We stayed there until 1:30 in the morning. And it was worth every minute. If only we could’ve already been in our jammies like she was! haha!
If you’ve made it all the way to the end..wow! Thanks so much for reading. This doesn’t even scratch the surface of all the fun we had, all the information I learned, and all the things I could share. But it’s a start. I think I’ll need to keep writing about it so I don’t forget. And if you’ve read this far and you’re not a Scentsy consultant, I would love to help you get started in what could be one of the biggest blessings of your life! The friendships you’ll find and the atmosphere this company offers is just astounding. And of course there is always the great products, the great pay, the incentive trips, and all the great training too! What are you waiting for? Join me today!
