I think many people my age and older (and even some younger!) dread birthdays. Not me. I love them! I have never been afraid to tell someone how old I am and I’m not afraid of being another year older. Not liking it isn’t going to change it so why not embrace it? lol!
I turned 42 years old today and it was a fabulous day! My love language is quality time, with words of affirmation in a close second, and I got both of those today. My daughter is studying abroad this semester so she wasn’t able to be here for my birthday but she so lovingly and thoughtfully wrote a letter and left it with her brother to give to me today. It was so beautiful! She is just the most amazing girl ever! And if that isn’t awesome enough, my husband and my son spent the whole day with me – taking me out and doing fun stuff with me. It was awesome! (How many 18-year-old boys will willing give up a whole Saturday to spend with their mom? I’m telling you – I have the best kids ever!)
We started the day at IHOP for breakfast where I enjoyed some yummy strawberry and banana French toast. We came back home for just a bit after that and I got to open presents as well as that beautiful letter from my sweet girl. I got a beautiful bracelet and a gorgeous necklace! Love them both!
After that, my husband and my son and I went to the movies together. I chose to go see Despicable Me 2 at the dollar theater. Such a cute movie! I love those minions!! The firefighter minion – OH MY GOSH that was funny! 😀
After the movie we went to Chili’s for appetizers/lunch. Side note – didn’t they used to do a big birthday thing for people there? Not that I have any desire to be the center of attention but my hubby was trying to make it special and asked about the molton lava cake as a birthday special because they used to do that. The guy said they don’t do that anymore – that they do an ice cream sundae now. Well, a few minutes later he came out and practically tossed the “sundae” on the table (the sundae was a little scoop of ice cream and a little hot fudge drizzled on top) and almost disappeared around the corner before my husband caught his attention to ask him something. No happy birthday – no smile – no hear you go – nothing. As I said, I’m not looking to be the center of attention but wow. That was a little sad! lol! Still, we enjoyed our meal and had a good time together so all was well and good. I was still having a great day!
We attend church on Saturday evenings and we had about an hour and a half before church started and since we were close to church and not close to home, we decided to go to a few stores for some fun while we waited. One of the places we went was Goodwill. I LOVE thrift stores! So fun! I even found a few little things that I purchased!
After our few little shopping stops, we headed on to church and enjoyed a wonderful service. After that, we headed home to get comfy and just hang out! It’s been an incredible day! The part that made it so awesome though – being with my husband and son. The only thing that would have made it better would have been getting to be with my daughter too! (Although I wouldn’t have had her trade where she is to be here with me for anything! She’s enjoying the adventure of her life in Europe!!)
And if all that wasn’t enough – I received Facebook posts, messages, texts, and phone calls all day from family and friends wishing me happy birthday and saying such sweet and special things to me! How can a girl not feel incredibly blessed after that? 🙂
Like the title says – 42 is looking pretty good!
